Although upon their launch in 1996 VoIP was not yet the widespread service that it is today, Snom IP Phones have pioneered the business phones market and contributed to the huge success of VoIP services, particularly Hosted PBX.
Snom 760 is an executive office phone that offers many features for a complete business experience: a 3.5” display, 12 identities, 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 2 USB ports and many more PBX-ready features. Its installation is done in a few steps and use is extremely easy thanks to its many self-explanatory buttons and screen information.
Installing the Snom 760
Most VoIP Providers ship preconfigured IP Phones ready to be used. All you need to do is to connect them to a power source (whether it is PoE or a power adapter), and to the Internet. These few easy steps will help you get your phone running in just a few minutes:
- Connect one jack of the handset cord to the port at the base of the handset. Connect the other end of the same cord to the port found on the back of the IP Phone labeled
- If Power over Ethernet (PoE) is available on your network: Connect an Ethernet cable to your network (i.e. modem, router or switch). Connect the other end of the same cable to the back of the IP Phone labeled (“NET”)
- If Power over Ethernet (PoE) is not available on your network: Plug in the supplied adapter and connect its cable to the power port on the back of the phone (“5V DC”).
- If you only have one Ethernet cable coming to the desk and need a physical connection for a computer, connect that cable to “PC” port of the IP Phone.
The phone should initialize the booting process which can take up to 15 minutes to complete. Once the process is complete, please pick up the handset and when you hear a dial tone you may enter a number to dial out.

How to use the navigation keys

The navigation keys serve different purposes depending on the state of the VoIP Phone:
Up and down arrows – On idle screen the arrows are used for selecting the identity prior to an outgoing call
-In other contexts, pressing the up and down arrows will navigate through various lists showing on the screen
Left arrow – on idle screen, pressing the button will show the list of received calls
- In other contexts it will move the cursor to the left (of a text, for example)
Right arrow – on idle screen, pressing the button will show the list of missed calls, and in other situations it will help you navigate the cursor to the right
The Green button on the left – on idle screen you can press it to redial a number
-when receiving a call you can accept it if you’re on speaker or using the headset
-in other situations press it to confirm an action
The Red button on the right – on idle screen you can turn the LED that indicates missed calls off
-while in a call on speaker or headset you can terminate it by pressing this button
-in other situations press it to cancel an action
Answering and handling calls
To answer a call, simply:
- Pick up the handset
- Press the Green (OK) button if you’re on headset
- Press the speaker button
While on a call, you can:
Put the call on Hold using this button
Mute your microphone using the dedicated button
Switch to your headset
Switch to speakerphone
If you do not wish to receive calls you can use the Do Not Disturb button. All your callers will receive a busy tone, just like if you were on a call.
Transferring calls using Snom 760
You have two options of transferring a call: unattended or attended.
An unattended transfer means that the caller will be transferred automatically to the other party, without you asking if the person is available to take the call or not. In order to transfer the call, simply push the Transfer button , enter the extension / number you wish to transfer to, and press the OK (green) button.
An attended transfer means that the caller will wait while you verify if the other party is available. In order to transfer the call, you will need to place the caller on hold by using the Hold button and make a new call to the desired extension/ number. Once the third party confirms the availability, you can transfer the call using the Transfer button option on your phone and then pressing the OK (green) button.
How to create a conference call
If you wish to add another person to the conversation while already being on a call, set the first caller on Hold and dial the second number. Once the third party answers, you will be able to merge both calls by pressing the Conference button .
